YOGA FOR ALEX

In May 2016, Alexander Kelston – a son, brother, and friend – took his life after a long battle with depression.

Yoga for Alex is an event to celebrate his life and raise money for depression research. We ask yoga teachers to dedicate a class to Alex and donate the proceeds to the Hope for Depression Research Foundation.

Alex traveled the world and built a community that spanned the globe. Join us by creating a class, taking a class, making a donation, and spreading the word!

A LETTER FROM LAUREN:

Dearest Yoga for Alex community,

Alex was an extraordinary guy. He was one of the most caring, generous, and loving individuals. I watched him grow into the amazing man that so many came to know and love. He was my brother and my best friend. We shared a closeness that was recognizable to those who knew us both together and as individuals. I was incredibly proud of him and all that he accomplished. I knew what he was capable of and I pushed him to be his best self even in his darkest times.

The Yoga for Alex project is dedicated to my brother, honoring both the depth of his suffering and his light that shone so brightly to the outside world. This project is my final gift to Alex. It is a gift that I hope like a seed, will grow into a beautiful worldwide experience.

My hope is that yoga will bring some peace and guidance to those who suffer from depression. Whether practicing physical postures, breathing techniques, or chanting mantra, the yogic tools are incredibly useful for helping to understand one's inner voice and to know ourselves more fully.

Thank you to those who have participated, and to those who would like to join us. Thank you for remembering my brother and honoring him. Thank you for your time, energy, love and support. Thank you for making a difference for others through your practice and your contributions to the Hope for Depression Research Foundation. Thank you for creating this network of love and energy that lifts me personally and allows me to grieve in a way that feels safe. Thank you.

Om shanti, shanti, shanti.

Love,

Lauren
